Threat To The Temple

Well my faithful followers, I have done enough for the moment and I know you have all been patient and helpful.  I do have some more detailing to do but I need a bit of a break and can do those small things in my spare time.

Ok, the pictures explain the story, it’s a Temple under threat, and the Royal Skeletons were concerned that the temple would fall into the wrong hands so they summoned their allies who have come to their aid.  That’s pretty much all that’s happening, sorry a bit pissy I know!! (Where’s IRO when a great story is needed4 eh!)

Well after that exciting entrance I’ll move on to what went into making it all possible.  First it was the Temple (Dominion of Sigmar, Shattered Temple) that I purchased from the helpful young man mentioned in my earlier post.  Next in line, the Galley (Academy Roman War Ship). The smaller ship was a lucky find near the end.  It was just what I needed, some vessel to fit on but still with a bit of punch. Originally I’d purchased the Greek Triera from Zvezda but it turned out to be enormous!!! The catapult like machine is from a Dark Alliance set that I have changed around a bit by adding some Ancient Britton cart wheels.  I bet some of you noticed those eh!

Well on to the figures.  As it’s been some time, I’m a bit hazy but I’ll try.  There are Zvezda Spartans and Greek infantry plus their war elephants, the other three elephants are converted from the Hannibal set by Linear–A. There are the two sets from Dark alliance I have just recently put up on posts as well as their Mummies and Amazons. The Skeletons that I found on E-bay came up well so they had to feature somewhere, and there are a scattering of Gladiators.  The Egyptian guys are a scattering from a couple of ancient people to give variety!

The water is from Crystal Clear and worked really well, it did take five hours to set and when I left it in a warm room overnight it was very hard.

There are around 560 figures in total, I thought I had more but when I counted them that was the tally.  There were to be a lot more cavalry but the room just wasn’t available.

Each diorama is the same size making the total length 120cm x 45cm or 4’ x 1’6”.

Well that’s about it.  I would say that this one is probably the last of the big ones unless Fi builds me a new shed when she comes to live next door!! Ha Ha!  I hope you enjoy seeing a few photos and remember to take care.   Regards Pat.

      Epic Pat, truly epic! Hard to no where to start on this one to be honest. The number of figures blows me away and they all look great. The temple and the ships are excellent and are magnificent features in there own right let alone collectively in this great diorama. The war elephants are great and catch the eye and then there are all the hidden details and the landscaping. My favourite I think are the skeletons in the sea. Great work with the resin too. As I said Pat an epic piece of work. 👏 As for Fi, as lovely as she is, that girl needs to get her act together along with her priorities. You need that shed now! 🙂

        Thanks Dave , I have say I’m glad it done , as you would know after your last mammoth dio it does take a bit out of one 🥵I’m just so glad the water worked 😳😃. Yes now to the shed situation 🧐

      I can see where I’ll be spending several hours now, looking at all the detail that you’ve managed to get into the boards Pat. Do like how you’ve kept a few areas almost clear, gives a sense of movement to the conflict

      Ahh … wow, I don’t know where to begin. The number of models, the variety, the sense of movement, the water, all the Easter eggs (I’m sure as I come back to this one I’ll find more). Stunning, simply stunning. Awesome and awe inspiring!

        Thanks Eric I’m glad you like it mate! It was a bit concerned about the number of figures but it worked out OK ,and as for the water I was so happy it worked out as that stuff isn’t cheap!!!

      My God Pat this is incredible work mate. Absolutely amazing!!! The terrain is a perfect fit, the ships look amazing as do all the troops. I love the skeletons as well. Thank you for the shout out too mate. If you don’t mind, I’d make one small suggestion. With the photography have a go at taking some at ground level. As in horizontal to the board. As if you’re a trooper (figure) on the ground. Great stuff Pat

        Cheers mate ,glad you like it and thanks for the photography advice, I took your advice on one of your earlier podcast and have improved the settings for where I take them so I will have a go at that and see how it turns out. I have to thank you lads for keeping me entertained while I have been plodding along with this show!! But some times I have to stop because of the tears!! I’m going to paint a heap of your lads,the orc’s so I have plenty more Fly on the wall ones to see me through painting them through Winter !

      Wowow. Such an epic diorama! It is amazing seeing all of the details you got into this one. It tells a great story and I like seeing something in the fantasy genre from you too. This is jaw-dropping work and I can’t imagine what you’ll do to top this one! Now let’s see if we can’t get a shed built for you to make a few more dioramas. We can start an online fundraising drive on Gofundme, if need be! 😉

        😂🤣😅Thanks mate , yeah the fantasy stuff is more relaxing as the rules a a lot looser 🤔Even if the go fundme worked I don’t think the wife would let me spend my time filling it with dioramas , I feel she has other plans🧐. Well those plans are never for evening so I still get the figures painted for s smaller spring offensive , this time I have the Orcs to do 😉

      Brilliant doesn’t really do this justice! 🙂 I’d thought about just doing a cut and paste job with TIM’s comment since I agree with him completely (doesn’t happen often, but he hasn’t mentioned films, music or TV programmes so I’ve got no choice but to agree with him)! A have admit, my favourites are the skeletons in the water and I did recognise the Ancient Britons chariot wheels!

        The wheels ! I new someone would as those old Airfix models are still handy . I know what you mean about Dave, he must get up early as he is usually the first from the UK 😅😅. I’m glad you are impressed and as for the skeletons as soon
        As I opened them I new some would end up in the water , you can position them however you like, brilliant 🤓so cheers mate I’m of to paint some of IRO’s mates the Orcs though I’m going with Tolkien’s colours not green !

      Wow, just wow! Your dioramas are just next level. I’m not on for a while and come back to this and it reminds me why I love our blogging community. Yours are some of the few posts that I always have to revisit on my laptop as you just can’t appreciate the detail on a phone.

      That’s one hell of a piece of work there Pat – incredible! I think I’ve mentioned before how much I’ve always loved dioramas and how you can view so many little micro-stories happening in the context of the larger battle, and really, I know it’s said up above in the other comments but you’ve really outdone yourself again here.

        Thanks mate , really appreciate that😊I didn’t realise how tense I get when doing the oceans 🤔this time the weather was a bit of a trial , but I squeaked through 🥵. I’m going back to smaller ones until that shed comes to fruition 😂😂😂.Just started painting up some Orcs , new to me but they have been fun so far 😃.

      Sorry it has taken me so long to get to see this. It’s terrific, of course! A real work of art and a labour of love, no doubt. There’s so much here to admire – the temple, the skeletons, the water, the vessels, the elephants, the giant cat! 😀 The hobby shed is clearly a necessity. I’ve gone from two sheds to none, so I feel your pain! Fi will build your shed first as a priority, I have no doubt… 😉

        Thanks mate , don’t worry I’m always behind checking everyone’s posts , I thought when I retired I would keep up but that didn’t work out 🤔. No shed mate that’s terrible , I won’t complain anymore I’ll just get put and tidy up the one I have until Fi returns 😃

      Wow, was an amazing project you completed, Pat! I feel like it is a scene out of an epic swords & sandals movie set in miniature! Truly amazing work and bonus points for getting the cat involved too!

        Thanks Ann it was a fun one at times! The cat belongs to the Tech adviser (Fi ) but found the sucker in the family very quickly when she first arrived!!! I think she was saying feed me or I’ll roll all over you diorama!!

      Your Herculean labour definitely paid off with this epic battle scene! It is right up my street, combining ancient history with fantasy, so many colourful characters and beasts in action. Setting it by the water with not one but two ships takes it to another level. Congratulations, and I’m looking forward to the next project already (Orcs you say? Excellent!).

        Thanks mate 😊your comments are very kind and appreciated , I never thought I would get to do fantasy being strictly historical but I have found it so much fun 😀as you have so much freedom ! One of the reasons for such variety is that it progressed so slowly that new product came available that I felt had to be included thus it ended up a two part show 😅😅😅. I have painted up a 120 odd Orcs so far and now it’s time to start on the opposition 😉cheers mate and thanks again🤓.

        Thanks Ann, it was probably the most difficult one I have done especially as it is a two part one, it was getting the water lined up that proved hard. After I did it I thought that’s it for over sized ones , no I had to go and do the Orcs dio😉though it was a breeze compared with the Temple 🤓.
