A photo of a photo in 1963 with me somewhere on the river bank watching!!I would be one of the few Victorians that traveled on trains hauled by one of these! that would make bloody old eh! Flag flown by Paddle steamers, the union jack, southern cross and the blue and white stripes representing the four tributaries to the Murray. The Gem, the largest passenger carrying paddle steamer on the Murray waiting passengers. One of only two working steam engines in Australia.Vintage tractors.Jill contemplating a purchase for our block!A barge paddle steamer tow up and down the Murray laden with wool.A pleasure paddle steamer on the little Murray.Slip way for building or repairing paddle steamers long ago.Pyramid Hill in the morning light.Looking out the back of the train, a fun thing to do.wow ! a carriage on our own! Or maybe we are not as popular as we thought!
It is Dave but there is a limit to the number of places like it , Iβm not sure if the next generation will be that keenπ€these places are only kept going due to the older generation volunteers, they do worry what will happen when they are gone. I suppose itβs like your old military museums that I visited back in 2018, the guys I talked to then said they faced the same problem.
Looks like you had a great trip. Next time go out to Lake Boga to see the Catalina Museum. A flying boat repair base was located there during WW2. https://www.flyingboat.org.au/
Thanks Dave it was a different way of doing it as we normally drive , we have done the Catalina museum a few times and it really has gotten better since we first went there years Ago, I bet you didnβt know that Swan Hill is famous only because I was born there πππππ»
These are great, Pat! π Gotta love paddle steamers and steam engines – I’m fortunate that I’m old enough to have travelled on a regular steam passenger train as a kid before they all disappeared (and the first house I lived in, until I was 10, had a railway line running behind it)!
Thanks mate, itβs always great to ride the paddle boats we are lucky to have quite a few still running. I remember travelling on the steam trains, they ran Diesel engines from Melbourne to Bendigo and changed to steam for the rest of the trip to Swan Hill, they started fazing them out around 1962 which would have been when I was about eight .
