Downsizing: WWII Part II

Well I’m back, well sort of, myself and the family had the Covid virus come visit and has dropped us all, apart from the general cold like symptoms it’s the lethargy and lack of energy to do anything that’s the bastard.  This is the first day that I have felt able enough to turn on the computer for a week.

Well enough of that and on with the update.  As you know I’m doing some of the Zvezda Art of Tactic series, some that I have posted earlier.  Well I had done some more but was too stuffed to post last week so here we go now.  There are a few more minis that I have made up myself but I’ll post those separately and now that I’m coming good health wise (fingers crossed) I’ll get to making up a few more of the Zvezda sets that I have.

I would say keep warm but most of you would be enjoying summer, so to the rest of you down here rug up because it’s one bugger of a winter in my neck of the woods!! Cheers Pat.

Hope you’re all feeling better soon, Pat. With the upcoming election here the government is too scared of the nutjob contingent to do anything at all beyond say “try not to die”.
To the models – Great work on these, Pat. I assume these are 1:100 Zvezda infantry? The little display pods really add to the overall effect as well.

Cheers matey you are right about the Government, after the last three jabs they asked how we were ,but after our fourth there is nothing but silence! We both got the virus a couple of days after our forth strange eh!!
These are 1/72 sets from Zvezda designed for Gammmers but theare great for little dios. As for the spice jars they work really well, our little K-mart hub shop has none left now!!

Very nice work on the minis Pat, they really are well composed little figures. Having had covid only a couple of months ago and been knocked for 6 with it I know it can be rough. Hopefully you’re through the worst of it, fingers crossed, and you’ll be back at the hobby desk with a vengeance! 🙂

Thanks Dave, I feel I am ok now having got through the day without slumping, Its just getting started on Fi though 😉I don’t think she has ever experienced any illness so it’s interesting to see her deal with it 😅😅.

Hope you feel better soon Pat, the long term effects are no joke.
For some reason I never picture Australia being cold, perhaps that’s just because of the only images I ever see are of sweltering heat.
Great work on all your mini vignettes, they look awesome

I thinks it’s because our winters are pretty weak compared with yours mate 😉when we hear about below zeros we tend to wimper, we must be a bunch of softies 😅😅😅👍🏻

Thanks Dave we seem to be on the mend, but like you say It will take a bit longer than I thought to truely get over it🤔.

It’s true that we only show images of summer, maybe it’s because our winters aren’t very dramatic and only really last two months, there would only be a very small percentage of Australia that would record temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit for longer than a month.

I’m glad you like the little guys, just a few more to do and then it will be time to move onto something new🧐not sure what though .🤓👍🏻

Hope you all get over it soon, Pat! 🙂 I can remember the feeling tired and having no energy part of it as being a real downer! The minis are really nice, I might have a look at more of those Zvezda sets (I’ve got the Russian 76.2mm infantry gun and that is a really nice model).

Thanks John, you’re right about the lethargic bit, probably the worst thing bout it.

I was only going on o do the few I had originally but when I saw how good they were I kind of got a bug for doing them, Having gone through the PSR’s thoughts on them I think I have come to the end, well hopefully 😂😂😂. Looking forward to seeing your 76.2 mm🤔.

I hope you’re all feeling better soon with no lasting effects. My sister-in-law has had all the jabs and now has her second infection, there seems to be no way to get immunity. Anyway, the Zvezda figures are great and a great value, I love what you’ve done with yours!

Hope you are all feeling better now Pat- I know how bad the lethargy can be post- covid so I hope you recover from it soon.

Great little vignettes btw- I’m a fan of them myself and have quite a bit of the Zvesda stuff in my collection.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Thanks Pete, the wife and I are coming out of it as the daughters have just started, and I thought I was a moaner😉. And your right about Zvezda stuff the do some great figures, I have some Austrian musketeers and pike guys that were a bit big in scale to get onto the ECW dio that would probably work well for a mini like these🤔, keep well matey 🤓👍🏻

I’m sorry to hear about COVID and I hope you and your family are feeling better. It was nice of you to share some more vignettes with us. They’re really nice looking and having that dust protection is really nice too.

How cold are things where you live right now? I’ll have to convert the temperature to Fahrenheit to understand but lay it on me! It can’t be worse than the winters are where I live, I reckon! 🙂

Thanks Jeff, we are all getting over it , we are in the fortunate group and didn’t suffer any more symptoms than one would have with a bad cold. Cold to us is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, it doesn’t get much colder than that in our region in the centre of Victoria, not very cold compared with what you would experience over there. It on lasts a few a month or two so we are lucky.
I must say doing theses little ones is a lot of fun but I’m looking forward to some warmer weather so as to get out into the shed and finish of the bigger one , cheers mate and keep safe.

I’m glad to hear it, mate! That is why I’ve gotten the jab a couple of times myself. 32 degrees is certainly cold though I’d say if you have a nice warm jacket, its not bad. In the winter, most days are below 32 degrees and it is very windy here so its not fun. There are plenty of places in the US that have winters close to what you’re describing though and as you can imagine, many people move there for the shorter and warmer winters. Having said all that, cold and hot are relative and if you live in a place long enough, you get used to that climate for sure!

It’s the wind matey🤨that’s what I can’t stand, ok if it’s cold slap on the warm coat as you say but that wind 🤬. Like you country we have a great variety of weather, we lived in the subtropical state of QLD for six years Beautiful, but work took me to the southern most area and it took me two years to acclimatise 😅😅.

Preparing for cold weather is a bit of an art form to be sure. You can wear a sweater and warm pants and socks, you need a warm coat, a hat, gloves, etc. There’s different levels of these things too. Where I live now, people have really warm winter wear but where I grew up, people just wore a simple coat which wasn’t heavy duty I guess you could say. With as big as our respective countries are, I suppose it only makes sense that you can get all kinds of climates 🙂 I hope it warms up for you soon!

Being prepared, that it mate, long ago my wife and my parents drove from the cool region where we lived to the tropics a two day drive. All went well until we stopped the first night and went out for a meal, yep we had only packed clothes for the warmer area 😅😅😅, Mum and dad managed and my wife wore my leather bomber jacket and I had a jumper, boy did we look weird 😳😅😅.

Those are excellent little dioramas mate, lovely work, sorry to hear about the Covid visit, it’s really buggering up the world! Might be cold over there but we are having record temperatures over here at the moment, they say it should hit 40degrees today! and the country has gone mad! we’re not used to it like you lot, who’s the softies now! 😁

    Cheers Roger.

Thanks Mate they are a nice little diversion for winter, easy to do in the house in winter. I saw you were getting punished with some bloody warm weather, my mum and dad were over on a holiday in 1976 and even they said how horrible it was and they both came from a hot area. I was there for two years (78/79) and fortunately it wasn’t to bad, I remember coming back from Morocco and crossing Hyde park as I lived in Paddington and there was a sea of bodies on deck chairs and it was only about twenty five 😳😅😅😅.

Well in your case I hope it doesn’t go on two long and you get a cool change👍🏻, we aren’t softie’, discerning when it comes to our body comfort needs 😅👍🏻.

Thanks mate I am coming good but I’m sure I would have recovered quicker in summer!! I have seen that the northern Hemisphere is getting a beating heat wise, is it as hot with you as in the UK?
