ACW. First up!
Thanks to all those who gave encouraging comments on my recent WWI effort, it was touch and go whether I was going to carry on through. A big thanks to Will for the advice that swayed me to carry on with it when it wasn’t going well. Go check out his work, he does great work on military vehicles. While I’m at it, the other bloke you should take a look at this week is a guy called Dave (Gee we have a lot of Dave’s in our group). As many of you would know I’m not Gamer (weak brain, I have trouble remembering the rules for the card game Snap!). If you are one however (a gamer that is), go and have a look at the fabulous work he has done on wrecked cars he will be using in the future. * Even if you aren’t, just take a peek I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
Well I’ve been in a bit of a hole recently; I’m still working on some models for part 2 of the WWI which may or may not come to fruition. I’m not the best at vehicles, slow would best word to describe my progress! I needed something to cheer me up and what makes me happy, painting figures!
A quick look in the shed revealed a mega load of figures to be done but an old faithful from 50 years ago drew my attention (Airfix US Cavalry), a set that the PSR aren’t too keen on but I’ve never been good at historical accuracy. Well if I’m into US cavalry I might as well finish off the Imex guys that never got completed. Now, having painted these guys up I feel a lot happier!! So there we have it folks, a few photos of figures that I have no idea what I’m going to do with???
Keep well and as Luke always says at the end of his Podcast “be good to your goats” Ha Ha!

Great work on the cavalry and thanks for the shout out!

Lovely work on the figures Pat and I’m sure you’ll work out something to do with them. I always loved the Airfix 1/72nd figures and saved my pocket money to buy a box whenever I could afford it. Happy days.

It’s funny that they still appeal to us oldies even though new better sets have been produced, gee didn’t they cost a fortune back then 😅😅😅, they truly were great days mate 🤓

They’re a great looking set of figures, Pat. Or to put it more accurately, two sets 0f figures. I’ve never really enjoyed painting cavalry, so they’re all the more impressive to me!

Thanks mate, once I would have shuddered when I had to paint cavalry but over time I have got used to it 😅😅😅.

Glad the painting exercise has made you feel happier, as that’s why we do it in the first place, for fun. It’s always nice to get recognition from like minded people, but the enjoyment of the process is the main goal.
Great work on the cavalry Pat they’ve turned out really well, and great mix of horse colours in there.

Thanks Dave it’s certainly good to be out of the doldrums 😅, the figures are not the best ever produced but I feel they would be in the category referred to as toys 🤔.

Sometimes there is nothing like a change of pace when you’re low on motivation! These are definitely a nice contrast to painting tanks as well 🙂 The cavalry looks great and will make an impressive diorama I would think. You might consider getting on Youtube and looking at some videos for how to paint tanks and see if that doesn’t get you feeling more enthusiasm for those minis. That has helped me on a number of occasions so that is why I thought I’d mention it.

Thanks Jeff I have packed the cavalry away as they have done the trick and I’m back on track with the models, it’s not the painting mate it’s me not able to decipher the instructions 😅😅😅for the life of me I have had to prise sections apart after realising they were in the wrong place 😡hopefully I am nearly finished the ones I need at the moment and can get back to finishing the figures I need , then its onto the base before it gets to cold 🥶😉

Yeah, I don’t think any Youtube videos are going to help with that, you just have to stay patient and try your best with the instructions! One idea would be to try different manufacturers to see if you can find one that you like better but I’m sure you’ve thought of that as well 🙂

Yeah Jeff the problem was that they are from Roden and they are the only ones that made the WWI military vehicles, they are great , and if one was more educated in how cars and trucks are made it would help, to late in life to do an auto apprenticeship 😅😅😅👍🏻

You are in a pickle there, Pat, but I have faith that you’ll figure it out (without having to go to auto shop for several years first)! 😀

PSR need to see them painted up like this, that would change their mind! Really lovely work on some classic figures. 🙂 I’ve been looking at some old Airfix figures lately too, so maybe they’re up for a revival.

😂😂😂thanks mate , there really is something appealing about some of the old Airfix figures that keeps drawing me back, or maybe it’s just nostalgia as they were the first. I have just unearthed a small box of them that I must have painted over fifty years ago 😳, I might put some photos up to show how my painting skills have improved 😉.

Good job getting all of that cavalry finished. I’ll look forward to seeing them, perhaps, in a diorama at some point.

Thanks Ann they were there and I needed something to paint so they are done but I haven’t had any startling moments that would spur me on to do something with them 😅😅😅

Absolutely lovely mate! You cant beat the old airfix sets on nostalgia alone! I think the vast majority of us “older” painters started out with them, though I doubt many were painted as well as these 😁. As Dave said above lovely variation in the horses too, they may be classed as toys, but if we’re honest aren’t most of the figures in our collections! (just don’t tell my wife that 😂).
Cheers Roger.

Thanks mate I feel your right about the nostalgia bit 😅😅As I have been distracted from my main dio at the moment and an putting together some small things I turned up some more really old ones 😳. I’m mounting them up at the mo and will show them soon , like you said us oldies will chuckle but I’ll be interested in the younger folk think🤔.
